Mexican Legend Lucía Méndez Is Discharged After a Week in the Hospital

Lucia Mendez

Mexican artist Lucía Méndez spent her first night at home after a week of hospitalization due to complications from COVID-19. The legendary television and Latin music star "was in very poor condition," said sources from her team.

The news of her discharge was revealed by businessman Antonio Pérez Garibay, father of sports car driver Checo Pérez. "Today (Tuesday, April 15) she is discharged and is back home," he said in a statement to the program 'En Casa con Telemundo.'

"She's going to come back stronger than ever; she has a lot to give to her people," added the businessman, who in recent months has grown considerably closer to the artist, even claiming they are in a romantic relationship, despite her denials.

Pérez Garibay decided to release the information one day after Méndez's team announced they had canceled all of his professional commitments until further notice, including his May dates in Mexico, confirming reports that his recovery will be long.

When Méndez contracted COVID in 2021, she herself said it was difficult for her to return to normal. "It took me a long time to take steps without drowning," she confessed at the time. This time it could be even more difficult, as her own primary care physician, Jesús Enrique Barrios, had explained the artist's health situation in an interview with Televisa Espectáculos last week.

"Lucía Méndez told me on Sunday that she was experiencing a severe cough and couldn't breathe. We had to take her to the hospital to run some tests, which showed she had a COVID infection and had been in a delicate state. She needed oxygen constantly, but she was stable," he explained.

"We're going to examine all her organs, including her heart and lungs, to see what aftereffects she might have experienced and to get her back to 100 percent," he explained.

His publicist, Vicky López, explained that Méndez went to the Spanish Hospital in Mexico City "on the recommendation of his doctor" because he had suffered from severe pneumonia before contracting COVID.
