Lucha libre, Mexican parades, food competitions, DIY piñata workshops, folkloric dances, tacos. All of these events will be featured across a multitude of fiestas this weekend to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Houston, Texas.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Latin American country's victory over France in the Battle of Puebla, which took place on that day (May 5th), 1862.

Cinco de Mayo has nothing to do with Mexican Independence Day, which actually took place on September 16, 1810, when Mexicans put an end to Spanish rule.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 5th, as the bulk of the action unfolds on this special day, with various venues hosting their unique events and offerings. Here are The Latin Times highlights in Houston's scene to enjoy this Cinco de Mayo.
