Ed Sheeran in Sunderland: Metro thanks fans for their 'good humour and patience' after Stadium of Light show

Ed Sheeran fans have been praised for their humour and patience after thousands were safely boarded on trains at the Stadium of Light metro station following the conclusion of the superstar singer-songwriter’s second evening at the packed-out venue.

Just after midnight, Huw Lewis, the Metro customer service director, who helped his staff ensure all Sheeran’s followers left the stadium safely and promptly, thanked everyone who assisted in the smooth operation. And that included fans and colleagues.

He said: “We have had two fabulous nights with Ed Sheeran and thank you to all our customers for such good humour and patience. We got you all home to where you be.

“Thank you to the wonderful team at Metro. It’s been a fabulous two days, it’s been calm and good humoured throughout and we look forward to the next Ed Sheeran show or next big concert at the Stadium of Light.”

One pleased fan wrote on Twitter: “Pretty impressive for the numbers you had. Let’s hope the extra capacity on the new trains will improve things next year.”

It was in stark contrast to the evening before, where the Metro were forced to issue an apology after some fans waited for two hours or more for trains - with some of them terminating at Newcastle - leaving many concert goers angry.

Around 120,000 people attended the two concerts across the two days. And the Stadium of Light twitter team, wrote: “You’re welcome back on Wearside, any time @edsheeran:”
