A Metro train was halted this evening prompting long delays after a passenger experienced a 'medical incident'.
Crews from the North East Ambulance Service rushed to the scene at Pelaw station after reports at 6:25pm that a female passenger had fallen 'unconscious' while travelling on the Tyne and Wear Metro.
The train was held at Pelaw train sidings while Metro staff assisted the passenger as they waited for medical professionals to arrive.

Earlier in the evening, a representitive from Nexus, the operators of the Metro, said: "A train has been stopped due to an unconscious female passenger. The train is being held at Pelaw sidings and is not affecting services on the wider network. Customer services and staff are on board the train assisting with the passenger until paramedics and ambulance arrives."
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed the service dispatched a rapid response team, a paramedic and ambulance to the scene.
But, contrary to the original report, they stated that that the casualty was not 'unconscious'.
They said: "We got a call at 6:25pm this evening with a report of a person who was unconscious on a train at Pelaw. We dispatched a rapid response team, a paramedic and ambulance to the scene but the patient refused hospital treatment.
"They were not unconscious as the intial report suggested."
As the evening went on, services on Metro were affected by delays as a result of the incident.
At 7.25pm, Nexus confirmed on the Tyne and Wear Metro's social media channels that delays of up to 25 minutes were affecting the service in either direction between South Gosforth and St James stations.
Further to this, at 7.56pm, Nexus subsequently confirmed a gap of up to 30 minutes affecting the service from St James towards Benton.
At the time of writing, Inrix was reporting delays of up to 30 minutes on the Tyne and Wear Metro between South Gosforth and St James.
