'Methven gone!' - Sunderland supporters react as ownership restructure confirmed

Sunderland supporters have been reacting to the news of the club’s ownership restructure this morning that has seen Kyril Louis-Dreyfus become a majority shareholder. Louis-Dreyfus has purchased an extra 10% stake in the Black Cats to take his shares up to 51% and assume more control.

Charlie Methven – who has previously owned a 5% stake in Sunderland – no longer has any, while Stewart Donald has seen his shares decrease dramatically from 34% to 19%. Uruguayan business Juan Sartori has also increased his stake from 20% to 30%.

Following today’s update, Louis-Dreyfus has confirmed there will be no further sale of shares to external parties as he focuses on rebuilding the club both on and off the pitch. Here is how Sunderland supporters have reacted to the news.

@SimonReed11: “Let’s hope this allows investment in the club and players this season. The small gains from behind the scene investments are just as important as the signings on the pitch. All require investment.”

@SuperkevFTM: “Methven gone! Happy days. Donald less shares, would be better none. Hopefully the 19% he still has is due to be sold.”

@TerryHobkirk: “Got carpet burns off knee sliding on my bedroom carpet. Thanks KLD.”

@donjuan72FTM: “Ooooh yes what a beautiful start to the day… just need SD to sell up now.”

@gavwilsafc: “Faith restored now let’s kick on and buy some players.”

@JohnJKerr: “Satisfied with this outcome for now – puts KLD in total control, even if his relationship with Sartori breaks down in the future, rids us of Methven and gives us some continuity so we can just crack on with planning for next season.”

@safc_pat: “This is what I needed to see this morning.”

@newtsfever: “Good news. Club can now hopefully move forward without this constant poison of leaks every week.”
