Meteor streaking across the sky is caught on Ring doorbell camera

A meteor streaking across the night sky in the UK was captured on a doorbell camera. The moving bright light was videoed by a Ring doorbell at about 8pm on Monday - along with a 'whoosh' sound

The meteor was seen across the Midlands, Sussex, Hemel Hempstead and Hertfordshire. The Met Office tweeted saying: "Reports of a meteor in the sky over the UK just now. If you managed to take any footage we'd love to see it"

Gully Sund tweeted the video saying it was captured at 8.01pm in Wolverhampton, reports BirminghamLive.

A meteor is a streak of light in the sky caused by a rock crashing through Earth’s atmosphere, according to National Geographic.

Elsewhere in the country, one Twitter user wrote: "I saw huge white ball, red surround, long trail of shooting stars type tail, couldn’t believe my eyes. Beautiful. If I was elsewhere or looking away would have missed it. Amazing."

One skygazer in Bristol captured the meteor on a Nest CCTV camera at around 8.01pm - as it headed east.

A woman, from Chippenham, Wilts., said: "I couldn't believe it. I was standing outside waiting for a lift to work when the sky lit up.

"A bright orange ball flew through the sky - it was incredible."

Another person said: "It wasn’t just a shooting star, it was orange in the sky!!"

One Twitter said they saw a "huge white ball, red surround, long trail of shooting stars type tail", adding that she "couldn’t believe my eyes. Beautiful."
