Metallica’s charity donates over £380,000 to feed Ukrainian refugees

The charity set up by metal legends Metallica has donated $500,000 (£382,000) to help feed Ukrainian refugees amid the Russian war.

The foundation, called the All Within My Hands Foundation, announced it was making the generous donation on Tuesday.

The money is to be sent to the World Central Kitchen which has been on hand to provide meals to people who have fled Ukraine because of the current conflict with Russia.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said: "The work that Chef José Andrés and the dedicated World Central Kitchen cooks do on the frontlines in a humanitarian crisis is nothing short of incredible.

"We are inspired, humbled, and beyond proud to support their teams currently in six European countries serving the millions of Ukrainians who have been forced to leave their homes."

He continued: "WCK represents everything that Metallica and our All Within My Hands Foundation stand for by providing meals with dignity and hope worldwide.

The band have set themselves a target of raising $1 million for the cause in the next two months.

In a bid to do so, they've started selling special t-shirts designed by artist Andrew Cremeans and have pledged to hand over all proceeds to the World Cenrtral Kitchen's #ChefsForUkraine campaign.

As well as this James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett will also be personally supporting the cause when they auction off the guitars used to play The Star-Spangled Banner at their annual Metallica night in May.

The band are far from the first celebs to raise cash for the people of Ukraine since the war began.

Ukrainian-born Mila Kunis and her husband Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher have raised over $35 million (£26.5 million).

Setting up the charity, the pair donated $3 million of their own cash and Mila wrote on their fundraiser page: "Today, I am a proud Ukrainian. While my family came to the United States in 1991, I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983.

"Ukrainians are proud and brave people who deserve our help in their time of need. This unjust attack on Ukraine and humanity at large is devastating and the Ukrainian people need our support."

Supermodel Gigi Hadid also said she would be donating all her earnings from participating in Fall 2022 Fashion Week shows to support humanitarian relief efforts for those who hadbeen impacted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

She said she would also be donating money to people in Palestine who have been affected by the Israel-Hamas conflict.
