The Met Police has referred itself to the police watchdog over contact it had with a south London man who is charged with murdering a woman in Bournemouth.
Nasen Saadi, 20, from Croydon is accused of murdering 34-year-old personal trainer Amie Gray on Durley Chine beach on May 24.
Saadi, who was charged in May, is also set to stand trial accused of the attempted murder of Leanne Miles, 38.
In a statement, a Met Police spokesperson said it had referred itself to the police watchdog after a complaint received in June over its handling of an allegation in February.
“We made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct on 7 June and await their assessment,” the spokesperson said.
Saadi was remanded in custody at Winchester Crown Court earlier this month, with a trial set to start on November 25.
The trial is expected to last three weeks.
Dorset Police received a report at 11.42pm on May 24 that two people had been stabbed on Durley Chine Beach.
Ms Gray, from Poole, died at the scene.
In a statement released after her death, Ms Gray’s wife Sian Gray paid tribute to her as the “most loving wife and mother.”
