A police officer will stand trial over an allegation he groped a colleague at the Metropolitan Police training headquarters.

PC Joseph Demir, 24, is accused of touching the man’s groin during an alleged sexual assault at the Hendon Training College in 2020.

The officer appeared in the dock at Westminster magistrates court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday morning, pleading not guilty to the charge.

“The defendant was training as a police officer while at the Hendon training college”, said prosecutor Adrita Ahmed, telling the court Demir is accused of “touching the groin area” of the alleged victim.

Demir spoke to confirm his name, address, and date of birth, before entering a not guilty plea to the charge.

Asked where he wanted the trial to take place, the PC replied: “At the crown court.”

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring sent the case to be tried at Harrow crown court, with a preliminary hearing on May 26.

Demir, of Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, was released on bail on the condition he does not contact the alleged victim.

He denies sexual assault on a male.
