Met PC sacked for using his work phone to contact sex workers

PC Shabul Miah was found to have used his Met Police issued mobile phone to contact escorts and sex workers from 5 April to 12 October 2024 - (PA Wire)

A Metropolitan Police officer has been sacked for using his work phone to send text messages to sex workers and escorts.

PC Shabul Miah, who was attached to the North East Public Protection unit, received and sent a “significant number of text messages” to mobile numbers that were linked to sexually explicit websites between April 5 and October 12, 2024, a misconduct hearing was told.

Some of these text exchanges took place when Miah was on duty.

Miah was found to have committed gross misconduct by breaching the standards of professional behaviour in relation to discreditable conduct. He was dismissed without notice.

Chief Superintendent Dan Card, who leads the North East London policing team, described Miah’s behaviour as “deeply inappropriate”.

“PC Miah’s use of work-issued equipment for his own personal sexual gratification was deeply inappropriate,” he said.

I hope this outcome shows we will not tolerate such behaviour and won’t hesitate to take action against those who do not reach the standards we expect from our officers.”

The hearing panel contended PC Miah behaved in a manner that was likely to bring discredit upon the Met, as well as undermine public confidence.

He will now be placed on the barred list held by the College of Policing.

Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
