Met officer in court charged with assault of man at Whipps Cross hospital

The incident took place at Whipps Cross hospital - (PA)

A Met police officer is due to appear in court this week charged with assaulting a man at an east London hospital.

PC Rajan Solanki, 28, is alleged to have used excessive force when dealing with a man at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone on June 24 last year.

The man had been admitted for a mental health assessment the previous night.

It is alleged that excessive force was used by the officer to restrain the man when attempting to reapply handcuffs.

PC Solanki will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday charged with assault by beating.

The charge follows an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

In November, the IOPC sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charge.
