Met officer charged with assault after 'using unlawful force' against Holborn 'car burglar'

A Met police officer has been charged with assaulting an alleged car burglar in central London.

PC Omer Farok, 33, has been charged with assault by beating over an incident which happened on June 15, 2024.

Farok had responded to reports of a man who had allegedly broken into a vehicle in Holborn.

He is alleged to have used unlawful force against the man, who was left with a head injury after falling to the ground.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed that Farok will appear in Westminster Magistrates Court this Friday over the incident.

According to the watchdog, they began investigating Farok’s case after a mandatory conduct referral was made by the police force in June 2024.

Six months after they launched the investigation, the IOPC sent their evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service who later authorised a charge against the officer.
