A Metropolitan police officer has been charged with two counts of misconduct in public office after allegedly sharing images of a woman found dead in a Southall park following an alleged rape.
PC Adam Aspinall Da Encarnacao, attached to the policing team in the west area of the Met, is due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on Monday. He was arrested on 12 September 2022 and suspended from duty.
The charges, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service last month, relate to sharing CCTV images concerning the rape of one woman and the alleged rape of another. One of the women is Natalie Shotter, 37, who was found dead in Southall on 17 July 2021.
The matter is being investigated by professional standards officers, and misconduct allegations will be dealt with at the conclusion of any criminal proceedings.
Shotter’s family and the second woman about whom rape footage was allegedly shared have been informed about the charges against the officer.
Shotter’s mother, Dr Cas Shotter Weetman, a lead advance practitioner in cardiology who has worked in the NHS for 44 years, is campaigning for justice for her daughter. She previously told the Guardian: “Nat doesn’t have a voice. I’m her voice. I’m not stopping my fight for justice. It’s a long-term mission.
“If Nat knew what I was doing I know she would be right there saying: ‘Thanks, Mum.’”
