Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice as Edinburgh braced arctic conditions

Edinburgh has been issued with a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice as the wintry conditions continue throughout the capital and the Lothians.

Forecasters have issued the further warning as temperature remain low, with snow set to fall across the city throughout the weekend. Flurries of the white stuff fell on Thursday, as chilly conditions saw temperatures dropped to -4C. And things are remaining cold as lows of -5C are expected on Sunday and into Monday.

Wintry showers will spread across the central belt, with snow likely to fall throughout Sunday morning. Forecasters expected 1-2cm of snow at low levels, with 5-10cam falling on higher grounds. Showers of sleet and rain are also likely throughout the weekend, with icy conditions continuing. A previous warning was issued covering the Lothians during Thursday and Friday, with the new warning now covering the capital itself.
