Met Office weather forecast for the King's Coronation weekend

Over the bank holiday weekend people across Greater Manchester will be hoping to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III with street parties, picnics in the park and barbecues. However, despite the warmer days we’ve experienced recently the weather is set to be unsettled this weekend - so make sure you have an umbrella on standby.

According to the Met Office, Saturday will get off to a dry start in Greater Manchester, although chances are most will be inside at this point watching the coronation ceremony. A high of 16C is forecast with light rain predicted at midday.

This will turn into heavier showers over the course of the afternoon, with no sign of the rain easy throughout the evening. It will remain mild though with temperatures only dropping to 13C.

Those with street parties planned on Sunday may fare better as forecasters predict a mainly dry day with highs of 18C expected for Greater Manchester. It will be a cloudy day with the small possibility of light rain at 4pm. It should be dry by the evening though if you’re hoping to get the barbecue out.

Unfortunately the rain is set to return again on bank holiday Monday with heavy showers forecast throughout the day. It will feel quite mild, though, with a high of 17C forecast.

The unsettled weather will also be felt across the country and Saturday will be cloudy and wet for many. Showers are likely to develop in central, eastern, and northern areas, as well as across Northern Ireland, but they are not expected to be as intense or as heavy as those on Friday.

Forecasting for the UK for the coronation day, Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert said: “An area of rain is expected to move into southwest England early on Saturday, moving northeast through the day with some heavy bursts at times. This is likely to bring some rain to London from mid-morning.

"Further north in Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland it will be a day of sunshine and showers before the more persistent rain moves northwards overnight. Under the cloud and rain, temperatures will be subdued with 16 °C in London, whilst 20 °C is likely in sunnier northwest Scotland.”
