The UK is about to bask in a spell of gloriously warm and sunny weather, with forecasters saying we could be heading for proper T-shirt temperatures. A high pressure system is hanging over the country, and it’s bringing blue skies, dry days and sunshine galore.
According to the Met Office, the days ahead are shaping up to be “dry and bright”, and thanks to that lingering high pressure, we might even see “very warm days” pop up, especially inland. The mercury could climb into the low 20s, giving us a real taste of early summer in mid-April.
Weather maps from WXCharts are showing the UK practically glowing yellow by April 10 – a good sign if you’re craving some Vitamin D. That warm spell looks set to hang around for a couple of days, though nights might still feel a bit nippy, with temperatures dipping back into single figures once the sun goes down.

Not everyone will feel the heat to the same degree. If you’re along the coasts of Wales or Scotland – particularly in the north and west – things might stay a bit cooler, hovering more around the mid to high teens. Still pleasant, but maybe not quite flip-flop weather.
The Met Office’s forecast from April 7 to 16 is looking pretty positive overall. They reckon high pressure will stick around for most of the period, keeping things nice and settled. That means long, dry spells with plenty of sunshine to go around. Sure, it might get breezy down in the southwest now and then, and inland areas are the most likely to feel those warmer temperatures. Still, it’s a far cry from the wind and drizzle we’re used to.
There is a slight chance of some low cloud or fog, especially around the east coast, and a few overnight frosts might sneak in on clearer nights. But it’s generally looking like ideal spring weather – especially considering that the middle of April might bring a few more unsettled spells with rain trying to sneak in from the west.
If March felt a bit chilly where you were, you weren’t imagining it – but there was a bright side. Despite the chill, the Met Office has revealed that it was actually England’s sunniest March since records began in 1910. That’s over a century of data, and last month smashed it.
In fact, it was the third sunniest March ever recorded in the UK as a whole, and Wales saw its second sunniest March too. Rainfall was way below normal as well – only Scotland managed to top half of its average for this time of year.
So, if you’ve been waiting for a reason to get outside, this might be your moment. Dust off the garden chairs, grab the suncream, and enjoy it while it lasts – because, let’s be honest, British weather doesn’t always play nice for long.
