The Met Office have issues an amber cold weather warning as frosty conditions are set to stick around.
The warning has been extended for the second time as the country continues to be gripped by plummeting temperatures. Leeds residents can expect temperatures to remain frosty for a little longer, forecasters say.
In West Yorkshire, minimum temperatures have been ranging between minus 7.4C and five degrees with some snowfall in parts of the region. Freezing temperatures have meant for treacherous conditions and chaos on roads across the region but the wintry weather isn't expected to stop just yet.
The Met Office has now said that a return to milder conditions is likely to be delayed by a few days, prompting forecasters to trigger an extension of the level 3 cold weather alert. It is now in place until 9am on Wednesday, January 25, and cold and frosty conditions will remain across all of England.
While it is predicted to stay dry in most parts of Yorkshire over the next few days, the Met Office has warned freezing fog could be a hazard as well as some ice. Uncertainty remains about milder air spreading from the northwest later next week and forecasters said an update will be issued no later than January 23.
Jason Kelly, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "Cold, icy and sometimes snowy conditions are in the forecast this week with the UK seeing more of a north-westerly regime, with temperatures well below average for the time of year. Wintry showers are likely at points through the week in the north of England.
"Warnings have been issued and ice is likely to be a hazard for much of the week with some tricky travel conditions possible. Maximum temperatures will largely only reach the low single figures with temperatures below freezing through most nights this week."
