Met Office predicts sunshine and warmer temperatures just in time Valentines Day

The Met Office has predicted that the winter weather could be finally coming to a close as mild temperatures and sunshine is set to sweep across the UK. Local residents in Bristol can expect to see clear skies and high temperatures of 13 degrees just in time for Valentines Day 2023 (February 14).

The UK's weather forecaster has predicted that the coming days will look "dry and settled" with "increasing sunshine" across parts of eastern Scotland and southern England. It's said temperatures will range between 9C and 11C, with some places in the northwest of England reaching 15C, The Mirror reports.

According to the Met Office, this is above average for this time of year as February temperatures are usually around the 8C or 9C mark in southern England. This week, Tuesday appears to be the brightest and warmest day of the week in Bristol, which is perfect for anyone planning romantic dates for the annual day of love.

The Met Office have said that the "warm air mass" moving in from the south will continue to bring sustained high pressure, which in turn will stave off wintry conditions for the most part, although some cloud cover may remain.

A Met Office spokesman told The Sun: "For much of the UK, this weekend and early next week will be dry and settled.

"This is thanks to a ridge of high pressure that is building across the country. Around this ridge of high pressure, winds are coming up from a southerly direction, helping to bring milder air to the UK."

"Into Wednesday, a more substantial frontal system starts to work its way into Scotland and Northern Ireland," Danaos said. "Some heavy rain there for a time, followed by some blustery showers."

He added: "This band of rain will weaken as it moves across England and Wales - barely anything on it - and on either side, we should continue to see some sunshine. It will be very mild in the southeast."

For the end of the week, Danaos says that Thursday and Friday "look more unsettled, with rain at times and some strong winds".

Met Office's five day forecast for the South West:

Today:

A dry day. Cloudy at first in the east but prolonged sunny spells developing by the afternoon. Relatively mild but feeling cooler in the breeze further west. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Prolonged clear intervals during the evening. Cloud pushing into the breezy west during the early hours. Chillier than recent nights in the east with patchy rural frost and fog patches. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Tuesday (February 14):

Fog patches clearing in the morning to leave a day of sunny intervals. Feeling mild with temperatures above the seasonal average but still breezy in the west. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday (February 15) to Friday (February 17):

Turning more changeable through the week with increasing cloud cover, outbreaks of rain and strengthening winds. Remaining mild, with a reducing chance of overnight frosts.
