Met Office predicts sunny weather in Sunderland for Ed Sheeran's Stadium of Light gigs

Pop superstar Ed Sheeran lands in the North East this week for two nights at the Stadium of Light coinciding with the bank holiday for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.

And many attending the highly anticipated gigs which take place this Friday (June 3) and Saturday (June 4) will be hoping for clear skies as they fill the venue, eager to make the most of the long weekend.

Ticketholders will be delighted to hear that weather experts at the Met Office have predicted perfect weather conditions, with not a drop of rain in sight and a sunny yet cool climate on Wearside for both days.

Sunny intervals will grace the skies come Friday, with clouds expected later in the morning, however the sun will return around 7pm as the first gig approaches prime time. Highs of 13 degrees and lows of 11 degrees are also anticipated.

On Saturday, it will start off cloudy but soon change to bright and warm at roughly 10am - with the sun expected to stay prominent for the rest of the day and evening before setting just after 9.30pm. Highs of 14 degrees are expected as well as lows of 11C.

More than 115,000 fans expected over the two shows, flooding to the doors as they open at 4pm each afternoon.

First support DYLAN will take to the stage from 6pm to 6.30pm, with Masie Peters taking over from 7pm until 7.45pm. The Shape of You star is then expected to emerge at 8.30pm for a two hour set filled with massive hits and pop bangers.

There are still tickets available on Ticketmaster, from £49.50 plus a booking fee, to see Ed Sheeran on Friday: see here. For Saturday there were re-sale tickets advertised on Ticketmaster for around £57: see here.

Ed Sheeran's website explains the tour is operating new mobile digital tickets that are sold only through its approved outlets as his promoters are committed to combating unethical secondary ticketing and resale (when not through one of its approved outlets like Ticketmaster). Read more about it here and for other approved sources see here. The mobile /smartphone will be your ticket; contained within an app or wallet.
