ADVERSE weather is set to grip large parts of Scotland this Friday, the Met Office has warned.
The weather service put out separate yellow alerts for wind and rain for the end of this week, with some homes “likely” to flood due to torrential downpours. The west coast in particular is likely to be hit with 50-70mph gusts.
The Met Office alert says that following a week of wet weather “further spells of heavy rain are expected through the course of Friday.”
The alert continues: “High ground is most likely to see the highest rainfall totals, with 30-40 mm possible in the space of six hours or so, and close to 70 mm by the time rain eases Friday evening.”
They urged the public to check if properties are at risk of flooding and to consider preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kits.
Yellow warnings are generally issued when the weather is likely to cause some “low level impacts”.
Regions and local authorities issued a rain warning:
Angus
Perth and Kinross
Aberdeenshire
Dumfries and Galloway
Scottish Borders
East Ayrshire
South Ayrshire
South Lanarkshire Regions
Local authorities issued a wind warning:

The alert for rain is in place from 6am until 6pm on Friday, with the alert for wind stretching from 8am to 3pm the same day.
The Met Office suggests preparing for potential power cuts in advance advising that people: “[gather] torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.”
The Met Office has also indicated that spray and flooding on roads could potentially make journey times longer. They advised the public to check road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending travel plans where necessary.
