THE Met Office has issued a new snow and ice warning covering parts of Scotland.
The latest yellow weather warning covers Orkney and Shetland as well as the Highlands.
It will be in place from 12pm on Wednesday, January 8 and will stay in place until just before midnight on Thursday, January 8.
The forecaster said that those affected should expect the following:
- Some road and railway journeys likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train
- Some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
- Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
The mercury is set to drop sharply in the coming days, with lows of minus 15C possible in Scotland overnight on Thursday and sub-zero temperatures expected across the country.
A temperature of minus 14C would equal the lowest seen in this month last year, recorded in Dalwhinnie in the Highlands on January 17 2024.
