Met Office issues yellow weather warning for Scotland with thunderstorms expected

A YELLOW weather warning is in place for Glasgow and the south-west of Scotland.

The Met Office has warned that “heavy showers, with a chance of thunderstorms, may lead to localised disruption”.

The warning covers Glasgow as well as other large towns including Ayr, Dumfries and Wigtown.

It is in place from 5pm on Monday May 8 until 11pm.

  • The Met Office warned that the following disruption could occur:
  • Some flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.
  • Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes.

There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

It added that some train services could potentially be delayed and that short-term power cuts could also occur.
