A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for much of Scotland, with impacts on roads and public transport expected.
Heavy rains are expected to hit on Tuesday morning, with showers expected to become more widespread and slow-moving in the afternoon.
The warning area encompasses most of Scotland east of a line running between Banchory, Pitlochry, Glasgow and Carlisle.
Small slivers of land on the east coast are excluded from the warning, from Aberdeen to Montrose and between Eyemouth and Berwick.
In areas with the heaviest showers, 15-20mm of rainfall is likely within an hour, with 30-40mm possible in a two hour period in fewer places.
The warning is effective from 8.00am on Tuesday, and will run until 8.00pm.
The Met Office has warned that some properties could be "temporarily flooded" in the worst-affected areas, and said that public transport was likely to be impacted.
It has advised the public to check road conditions or timetables before travelling, and to be prepared for quick changes in weather conditions.
Power cuts are unlikely, but the Met Office has advised members of the public to be prepared for them by ensuring mobile phones are charged and keeping torches to hand.
ScotRail has not issued a warning at time of publishing.
