THE Met Office has issued a new yellow warning for ice for the whole of Scotland as well as a three-day warning for snow.
A snow and ice warning was originally in place for parts of the Highlands, although this now covers Orkney and Shetland as well as parts of the Western Isles.
This will be in place until 10am tomorrow having come into force at 4am on New Year’s Day.

A separate warning just for ice has been issued for the rest of the country and will come into place at 4pm.
It will also last until 10am on January 2 with the Met Office warning of “icy surfaces” leading to some difficult travel conditions.
The forecaster warned of “some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths” and “some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces”.
In terms of snow in the north of the country, the Met Office said to expect between 5-10 centimetres to fall in areas above 300 metres while areas at low levels should expect 1-3cm.
“Sleet is more likely along windwards coasts at times, leading to ice formation on untreated surfaces overnight,” the forecaster said.
Three-Day warning
A three-day snow warning has also been issued for parts of Scotland this weekend as the Met Office warned rural communities could become cut off.
It will come into place on Saturday, January 4 at midday and is in place until 9am on Monday, January 6.
The warning predominantly covers England although does also stretch into parts of the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway and areas such as Lanark, Livingston and Cumbernauld.

The Met Office warned there is a "small chance of power cuts" and a "slight chance" that rural communities may be cut off.
It also added that travel delays were possible as a result of the warning.
On New Year’s Eve, some parts of Wick in the far north of Scotland were so badly flooded that ScotRail said no rail replacement buses would be running.
A post on X read: “Due to multiple flooding issues along the Far North route, the Wick/Thurso line is now closed for at least the remainder of today. As bus companies have stated that road conditions are too hazardous here, we’re unable to supply bus replacements along this route.”

Despite the cancellation of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay street party and fireworks, which left international tourists who had planned holidays around the events trying to find last-minute alternatives, organisers said New Year’s Eve was a success.
Some events were rearranged to be held indoors, including Australian DJ Hot Dub Time Machine, who was due to perform in Princes Street Gardens but was moved to the Assembly Halls.
