The Met Office has issued another weather warning for Merseyside with the arrival of Storm Eunice.

According to the latest forecast, people across Merseyside can expect to see gale force winds of up to 68mph later today followed by ice in some areas this evening.

The Met Office said this could lead to icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths and some injuries from falls on icy surfaces.

Temperatures will drop to 4 degrees this evening but are expected to feel more like -2 degrees.

The Met Office has also warned that there could be a "danger to life" as a result of extremely strong winds.

It warns of "flying debris resulting in danger to life" and "damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down."

The amber weather warning for wind said: "Roads, bridges and railway lines are likely to close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.

"There is a good chance that power cuts, possibly prolonged, could occur , perhaps affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage."

The weather warnings for wind are expected to remain in place over the weekend before easing off on Monday.

The Met Office forecast for the North West said: "Very strong winds continue through Friday in association with Storm Eunice with outbreaks of rain and hill snow. Wintry showers following as the storm clears, potentially falling to lower levels. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

"Wintry showers continuing through the evening and overnight. Snow settling on higher ground. Remaining windy with gales along coasts. Feeling cold with a widespread ground frost and some icy patches. Minimum temperature -1 °C."
