The rain is set to continue into the evening also before easing through the night.

The Met Office added that we should expect the following conditions tonight: "Rain continuing for most though gradually easing through the night, with extensive low cloud, mist and drizzle at times. Remaining breezy along coastal areas. Minimum temperature 12C."

The Met Office have issued the following warnings ahead of the approach of the storm as the rain and thunderstorms look set to cause disruption.

It said: "There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus with delays to train services possible.

"Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible, potentially leading to some damage to buildings or structures. Perhaps damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes, with short-term loss of power and other services possible."
