The Met Office has issued a Boxing Day weather warning for ice covering Greater Manchester - with a similar alert in force for tomorrow, Tuesday.
The warning is coded as 'yellow', meaning the weather could lead to travel disruptions. "Ice may cause some delays and difficulties at first on Monday," said the alert.
The Met Office predicted the chance of 'some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces' and warned of icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The alert is in place until 10am tomorrow, Tuesday, with wintery showers likely to result in ice formation on roads and paths. Motorists have also been warned over 'difficult driving conditions'.
"Wintry showers fading tonight leading to an ice risk on untreated surfaces," said the alert.
"Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths leading to a greater chance of injuries or accidents Patchy snow on higher routes, both from wintry showers this evening, and also on leading edge of rain early on Tuesday, making for somewhat difficult driving conditions."
Weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued across the majority of the UK.
The yellow warning is in place from 6pm this evening until 10am tomorrow and is likely to affect roads as many people head home from their Christmas breaks.
A Met office forecaster said: "Wintry showers will continue through this evening but as skies clear, patchy ice is expected to develop on some untreated surfaces.
"Cloud and rain will arrive from the west through Tuesday morning with temperatures starting to rise. Any snow will be reserved for higher ground with patchy and temporary accumulations of 1-2 cm above around 300 to 400 metres."
In the north west, the alert covers Blackburn with Darwen, Cheshire East, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
