Met Office issues yellow rain warning for parts of Scotland with possible floods

A yellow warning for rain has been issued for tonight and tomorrow, covering several parts of Scotland.

The warning will come into place at 9pm tonight and will last until 6am on Thursday August, 4 with the Met Office saying that some disruption could be possible.

The rain warning covers Central, Tayside & Fife as well as Grampian. The Met Office states that there may be some spray and flooding on roads that could extend journey times, flooding in homes and businesses could also be possible.

Bus and train services will probably be affected by the harsh weather.

The Met Office said: "Showers will merge into some longer spells of rain across parts of eastern Scotland during Wednesday evening and again overnight.

"Rain is expected to turn heavy in places, with 10-20 mm possible in one hour, and very locally 40 mm in 3-6 hours, but not all places in the warning area will see these amounts."

Locations covered by the warning include:

  • Angus
  • Dundee
  • Fife
  • Perth and Kinross
  • Aberdeenshire

It comes less than one week after a similar yellow warning for rain was issued for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian and Borders last Thursday. However, this warning lasted for just four hours while tonight's rain could last as long as nine hours.

The Met Office have issued guidance on what to do in a flood as well as how to protect your home from possible flooding. Currently, there are no warnings from Friday onwards.
