THE Met Office has issued a new snow and ice warning covering large parts of Scotland.
It comes as dozens of schools were forced to close on Monday morning across the north east of the country as disruption continues.
The latest warning covers Orkney and Shetland as well as the Highlands and the entire west coast.
It will be in place from 4pm on Monday, January 6 and will stay in place until midday on Tuesday, January 7.
The forecaster said that “further wintry showers may lead to some travel disruption” and to expect the following:
- Some road and railway journeys likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train
- Some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
- Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
It comes after the coldest night of winter was recorded overnight with temperatures dropping to lows of -13.3C.
