Met Office issues new snow and ice warning for Wales

The Met Office has issued a new snow and ice warning for Wales for Friday morning. The yellow weather warning covers a range of locations in the south of the country including Merthyr Tydfil, Ebbw Vale, Blackwood, Pontypool, and Monmouth and is in place from 4am until 10am.

People can expect "areas of mainly light snow combined with icy patches", which "may cause some disruption to travel," according to the Met Office on its website. It adds that some roads and railways are "likely" to be affected with longer journey times expected. It also warned of icy patches on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.

The new warning comes after the agency already issued an amber weather warning for parts of mid and north Wales which is in place until 9am on Friday. That carries a warning that up to 30cm could fall in places. You can see the full details here.

There is also a yellow warning for snow in parts of mid and north Wales that began at 7am on Thursday and runs until 2pm on Friday. Some 10cm of snow fell in parts of Wales on Wednesday leading to more than 70 school closures.
