The Met Office has issued a yellow warning covering much of western Scotland as well as the Highlands and islands and Shetland.
The warning is in place from Wednesday, 20 at 10am until Thursday, 21 midday.
It said that “snow and ice is likely to result in difficult travelling conditions” and to expect the following:
- A small chance of power cuts
- A small chance of pavements and cycle paths becoming impassable
- A slight chance of rural communities being cut off
- A small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
Potential for travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers as well as delayed rail and air travel
The Met Office had already said that cold northerly winds will continue throughout the week across much of the UK, with further warnings likely.
In Aberdeenshire, a bus toppled on its side on Tuesday as a result of icy conditions with temperatures dipping as low as -11.2C in Braemar in Aberdeenshire.
