Met Office issues flood warnings across UK after Storm Otto hits

Flood alerts have been put in force across the UK in the aftermath of Storm Otto. Strong winds and heavy rain battered parts of the country across the weekend leaving some homes without any power.

Although the worst of Storm Otto narrowly missed Greater Manchester, the region was still hit with strong gusts with a yellow weather warning issued for places on the outskirts.

As the storm now moves on from the UK, the Met Office has issued flood warnings across some areas. From 9am on February 20 the national weather service warned of flooding across parts of the north and east of England including the North Sea coast, Humber Estuary and the Essex coast.

Luckily there are no flood warnings or alerts in Greater Manchester but some river and sea levels are high.

Here is what the weather forecast is looking like this week across our region according to the Met Office:

Monday:

Monday will be a rather cloudy day across the region with some hill fog and some patchy light rain and drizzle. It will be mild for time of year, and the brisk westerly wind will gradually ease. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

It will remain rather cloudy during the evening and overnight period and there will continue to be occasional light rain and drizzle, with fog over the hills. A mild night. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Tuesday:

Tuesday looks set to be another mostly cloudy day with the odd fog patch lingering over the hills. However, it should also be largely dry, and mild in gentle winds. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Wednesday to Friday:

A band of rain will clear eastwards on Wednesday. After a frosty start Thursday will see plenty of sunshine. Cloudier heading into Friday with patchy rain. Colder than of late.
