Met Office give Leeds thunder warning update ahead of predicted epic storm over 48 hours

The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning as thunderstorms look likely to hit Leeds on Monday and Tuesday.

The warning covers much of the UK and the majority of Yorkshire. It will come into force at 6am on Monday (August 15) and follows the amber heat warning that was issued for parts of south Leeds over the weekend.

The thunderstorm warning was initially only in place for Monday but has now been extended for whole of Tuesday.

The Met Office has warned the thunderstorms will bring 'locally heavy rain and possible disruption'. It means there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded 'quickly' while spray and heavy rain could lead to difficult driving conditions throughout the day.

The Met Office spokesman said: "Hit-and-miss thunderstorms likely to develop through Monday, producing some torrential downpours for some spots, and possible disruption.

"While some places stay dry, others are likely to see thunderstorms during Tuesday with torrential rain bringing some disruption."
