Met Office forecasts warm and bright weather in Liverpool

According to the Met Office we've officially had our hottest day of the year so far - and things are only going to get better.

Much like the rest of the country, Merseyside can expect to see more warm and bright weather this week. Temperatures are even going to hit highs of 18C, with not a cloud in sight predicted.

Today, on Monday, March 21, the week will get off to a dry and settled start with plenty of sunshine and warm weather. Highs of 14C will be recorded in some parts of the region with no rain expected to fall.

Into the evening the cloud cover will increase but clear spells will return overnight and into the morning. Again, a bright and warm day will welcome those waking up on Tuesday, March 22.

It's on Tuesday that temperatures will hit highs of 18C. With winds staying light, the day will remain warm throughout and Liverpool is likely to miss any light showers in the afternoon.

The settled and warm weather will continue from Wednesday to Friday, with plenty of sunny spells and warm afternoons. In the nights it may get chilly with some patches of frost due to the lack of cloud cover, but this will clear by morning.

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said: "This week is going to be very similar. We're going to keep high pressure just to the east of the UK and that means it will be largely dry and settled with plenty of sunny spells.

"There is the odd exception, there could just be an isolated shower across the Midlands on Monday, perhaps northern England on Tuesday, but they're going to be very isolated and most places will be dry and sunny."

Mr Dewhurst added sheltered areas "will continue to be on the pleasant and warm side". The temperature is expected to remain above average into the weekend but will then drop slightly into the following week.
