Glorious sunshine has turned to dull skies and rain in recent days for our region. More unsettled weather is on the way for north west England as we continue into July.
Last month was the hottest June on record in the UK, the Met Office has confirmed, with the average temperatures hitting 15.8C. It was 0.9C hotter than the joint previous record of 14.9C in 1940 and 1979.
Temperatures are due to fall slightly below-average in July, but it will still feel and humid, according to the Met Office's long-range forecast. Between Saturday July 8 and Monday July 17, the forecaster predicts 'unsettled' conditions in north west England.

Muggy weather, heavy rain and potential thunderstorms are on the way, but conditions should become more settled from mid-July to early August, with both hot spells and thunderstorms still a possibility.
The Met Office's long-range forecast for July 8 to July 17 read: "A band of heavy rain is moving erratically east across into western Britain. Expect very warm and humid conditions with scattering of showers, potentially developing into severe thunderstorms ahead.
"Temperatures will be very warm/hot for most in England, eastern Wales and parts of Scotland; however, becoming cooler from the west. Later in the period, conditions likely to remain generally unsettled with most places seeing some rain or heavy showers at times, with a risk of thunder, but also some drier interludes with spells of sunshine."
It added that overall temperatures would be 'around' or 'a little below' average for July.
From Tuesday July 18 to Tuesday August 1, the forecast read: "For the second half of July until early August, conditions will likely trend from generally unsettled to more settled, though still with scope for a few showers or thunderstorms.
"Some hot spells are still possible, though in general temperatures should be around to rather above normal."
