The North East is set for a wet and miserable week ahead with heavy rain forecast across the region. The Met Office forecasts an unsettled week of weather with plenty of clouds and lots of rain.
According to weather experts, temperatures will continue below 10C with winds over high ground. The outlook for tomorrow (March 21) will be just as bleak with a cloudy morning met with showers.
The rain is then set to ease off to make way for sunny spells before more persistent rain during the evening. Into Wednesday, the overnight rain will clear with wind but sunny spells and showers are expected towards the afternoon.

The Met Office long-range forecast says that Thursday and Friday will be unsettled with heavy rain. Showers over high ground have the potential to turn wintery with temperatures colder in the north.
Towards the weekend, from Saturday onwards, the rain will continue with thundershowers a possibility. Those on higher ground can expect more wintry showers, becoming drier through the day.
Sunday will likely bring further rain and perhaps windy conditions to the south, whilst northern areas see brighter skies and wintry showers. After a mostly dry start to next week with some frost, further periods of strong winds and rain are expected with perhaps a trend for the wettest weather to be in the south.
Weather maps show that the rain will consistently pass over the region. It shows that the weekend is likely to be wet and chilly with a possibility of overnight frost.
More strong winds and rain are forecast to follow and will continue into early April. The month is more likely to settle down with drier conditions on the cards, however, wet conditions are still a strong possibility.
It comes following a disruptive March that has seen relatively mild temperatures followed quickly by heavy rain, strong winds and snow across the country. There have been weather warnings issued for wind, rain and snow and the UK Health Security Agency had issued numerous level three and level four cold weather alerts.
