The North East looks set for a washout as we head into the second half of Christmas week with chilly temperatures and blustery showers forecast.
Leading meteorologists the Met Office have forecast showers heading into this evening (December 29) with a generally dry night making way for more persistent rain upon day break. Anyone planning on staying outside during the evening should take a coat with minimum temperatures expected to hit a cool 2 °C.
The showers are expected to spread in from the west according to their forecasts with a breeze expected throughout the night.

The Met Office have forecast the following conditions for tonight: "Showers tending to ease through the evening to give a generally dry night but staying breezy.
"Outbreaks of more persistent rain spreading in from the west by dawn. Minimum temperature 2 °C."
As we head into Friday, conditions are set to remain windy with persistent rain also forecast for the North East. Again, temperatures are not expected to get into double figures with the mercury set to hit a maximum of 9 °C during the day.
Although persistent rain is likely in the morning, these showers are expected to be more sporadic as we head into the afternoon which will be brighter than previous days.
The Met Office have forecast the following conditions for Friday (December 30): "Remaining windy with persistent rain during the morning clearing to leave a brighter afternoon with occasional blustery showers. Maximum temperature 9 °C."
