Scots were treated to some early spring sunshine yesterday as the country recorded its hottest day of the year so far.
The hottest of the conditions was to be found in northwest Scotland, where temperatures peaked into their late teens on Saturday afternoon.
Experts at the Met Office recorded the warmest weather in the Wester Ross village of Kinlochewe, where a high of 20.2C was found.
It was the highest temperature recorded in the UK since October 19 last year.
The uptick in temperatures was thanks to an enormous area of high pressure found across northern parts of Europe.
But the thermostat quickly plunged to low single figures overnight, with Scots waking up to lows of around 3C this morning.
Will the warm weather continue into the week?
The Met Office is expecting this high pressure to continue ‘dominating’ across Scotland and the rest of the UK.
This means that temperatures are likely to stay above the average maximum for March, which is around 9C.
Today will feel cooler and fresher than yesterday with a high of around 12C for the west and nine for the east.
Temperatures are expected to pick back up on Tuesday, with a high of 17C forecast for some areas of the northwest highlands.
The thermostat could remain in the mid-teens on Wednesday, according to the latest Met Office forecast.
Met Office Meteorologist Dan Stroud explains: “Saturday was the warmest day of the year so far for Scotland, although Sunday is going to feel quite different with a much cooler and fresher feel.
“It will be a bit of a chilly start this morning but largely dry and bright right the way across Scotland with a little bit more in the way of cloud across parts of Aberdeen during the course of the Afternoon.
“Temperatures on Sunday will be a little bit down on what they were on Saturday. We will have highs of 12 for the west and nine in the east.
“Looking at the outlook period, high pressure continues to dominate as we go into the working week, although a little bit more in the way of cloud around at times.”
