Met Office forecast for Greater Manchester as April chill makes way for warmer weather

After a chilly start to April, warmer weather is on its way, according to the latest forecast for Greater Manchester. The Met Office predicts that temperatures will start to creep up this week ahead of a much warmer Bank Holiday weekend.

On Monday, a band of heavy showers is likely to arrive in the afternoon, the Met Office says. However, temperatures will feel warmer than they have been in the previous days and could reach 16C by mid-afternoon.

Despite temperatures rising, Greater Manchester is unlikely to see much sun, with cloud and some heavy rain predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday, temperatures are likely to have reached around 17C, with overnight temperatures warming up too.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said temperatures will be hottest in the south of the country. “With a southerly air flow, it is certainly going to feel warmer, if we get some brightness in the southeast, temperatures could top out at 20C, mid-teens elsewhere,” he predicted. “For the next 10 days, the general trend is for it to turn warmer with higher pressure increasingly through next week and into the following next week.”

Part of the country could even be warmer than Ibiza over the Bank Holiday, with temperatures potentially reaching 21C in the southeast of England.

Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, said: “It is going to warm up from where we are at the moment. Next week we could see temperatures in the high teens, and I would not be surprised if by Easter weekend we saw 21C. It is fair to say that the week to come is not going to be a bad one.”

Towards the end of April temperatures are likely to get even hotter. The long-range forecast from the Met Office says: "Towards the end of April high pressure is likely to become dominant, with longer spells of dry and settled weather possible, especially in the south. Temperatures are anticipated to stay above average during this period, though overnight frosts are still possible. Any unsettled spells most likely to be in the north and northwest."
