Met Office and BBC weather forecasts show days of warm, dry weather and sunshine

It’s been the coolest start to spring since 1986, but Saturday was the warmest day of the year so far in Wales and the good weather finally looks set to hang around. Temperatures hit 21°C in Porthmadog, Gwynedd, over the weekend and the week has started off on a bright note.

The Met Office says that high pressure is building in the west keeping things largely settled for many across the UK this week. For Wales, it says that the week will be "largely fine and dry".

The forecasting service's forecast for Monday says it will start "dry and bright" with "plenty of sunshine on offer through the day" but it will feel cooler than it did over the weekend.

For the rest of the week in Wales, they say: "A chillier start than of late, then remaining fine and dry through Tuesday with sunny spells. Temperatures closer to average for the time of year. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

"Remaining settled for the rest of the week, with largely fine and dry weather alongside light winds. Perhaps some showers on Friday. Near normal temperatures for the time of year.."

And it looks set to last into the weekend too, with the Met Office long range forecast for the whole of the weekend saying: "Into the weekend a high-pressure ridge is most likely to extend across the UK, resulting in a good amount of fine and dry weather for most. Into the next week a continuation of these settled conditions is expected, with fine and dry weather for many.

"The greatest chance of rain or showers is for the far northwest and southeast. Winds staying generally light, although possibly a bit stronger in the far south, southeast and northwest. Temperatures most likely above average overall, although most likely closer to average in the southeast."

The weekend forecast for Cardiff, Swansea, Brecon and Aberystwyth is showing sunny weather with highs of 18°C.

BBC Weather has a similar forecast saying that high pressure will "reassert" itself during the week.

And it looks like it might last with their long-range UK forecast for the end of the month saying: "Late May and early June will most likely see a ridge of high pressure across the northern UK, with low pressure away to the south and south-west. It should, therefore, stay drier than average but there will be chances of showery and perhaps thundery outbreaks occasionally drifting northwards into England and Wales, and increasing chances of wet weather spreading northwards later in the outlook period.

"Temperatures are going to be a little above average on the whole; but with winds likely to come from the east much of the time, eastern coasts could be much cooler."
