Met Office 14 hour thunderstorm weather warning for Liverpool

The Met Office has issued a 14-hour-long yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Liverpool which kicks in on Sunday morning.

The weather organisation has a yellow warning in place for Merseyside and most of the North of the UK.

Power cuts, flooding and dangerous driving conditions are all possible tomorrow, with a chance Liverpool could be hit by storms.

The weather warning starts at 10am tomorrow and lasts until midnight on Sunday.

The warning said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms leading to a chance of flooding and disruption.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."

The forecast for Liverpool tomorrow currently appears to be sunshine and showers, with the constant threat of storms for the majority of the day.

The Met Office forecast for the entire North West said: "A largely dry start with some sunny spells, but cloud builds through the morning ahead of showers, heavy and possibly thundery in places, arriving in the afternoon. Feeling very warm. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

"Bright spells with showers, locally heavy on Monday. Cloudier and cooler with outbreaks of rain, at times heavy into Tuesday. Blustery on Wednesday with showers or longer spells of rain."
