Met Gala viewers were left scratching their heads after the event's livestream ended abruptly, despite the hosts promising a big surprise was in store.
A legion of celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton had already walked the iconic red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when fans were told there was still more to come.
Host Chloe Fineman teased viewers that they were waiting for "our biggest star of the night", though fans were simply shown numerous shots of the empty red carpet.
That didn't stop Chloe from asking her co-host Derek Blasberg who he thought could be the special guest, as he said they were likely both thinking of the same person.
"Who do you think it is?" she asked, as he responded: "I think I know who it is, I think you know who it is."
Chloe joked that she would offer a hint as she said: "Okay, it rhymes with... just kidding!"
The hint prompted some viewers to suggest Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, who arrived late to the Met Gala in the past, were still on their way.
However, the hosts instead ended the livestream as they admitted: "Sometimes things don't work out as planned," leaving fans confused about the surprise they had been waiting for.
Taking to Twitter, one person questioned: "So what happened to the surprise that the hosts were talking about?"
Sharing a picture of a clown, another person wrote: "Not me waiting 4 the surprise appearance at the #MetGala."
"Pause did they really end #MetGala ?? Weren't we supposed to see the surprise guest?" a third viewer asked.
One annoyed viewer added: "The end was a joke bffr we were waiting for the BIG surprise that was being hyped up #MetGala," while someone else agreed: "How can they tease a BIG surprise like that and then just end the stream? #MetGala."
The hosts have yet to confirm who the special guest was supposed to be.
