Met Gala's tribute to Karl Lagerfeld

The Met Gala began in the year 1948 as the society's midnight supper and it wasn't even that gala at the Met then. But today the Met Gala has been regarded as one of the most extensively photographed occurrences in the world for its head-spinning red carpet though the carpet has been printed in Karl Lagerfeld’s cream theme which was far

from being just red this year.

This year's annual invitation was nothing but a stupendous affair to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of

Art’s Costume Institute. The exhibition this year is a paean to Karl Lagerfeld and his life of a visionary eminence, who passed away in the year 2019. All the attendees obeyed the tribute theme to the T and dressed “In honour of Karl” including some of the known ones and many new bees of the glamour world coming from diverse spectrums of fashion, music sports and Hollywood backgrounds. Best Looks of the Night has a list of never-ending mentions on the cream carpet playing homage to Karl.

Karl Lagerfeld, A legend of the fashion world and an iconic fashion designer, fetched at the helm of Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous brand. He was also known for being democratically snobbish in the industry and notable for making outrageous statements that were borderline controversial and some that were just plain sharp yet funny. When he passed away there was a tight-lipped penetration of grief and anguish which took over the whole fashion industry. His absolute genius has been immortalised for all of us to live with and The Met Gala this year embraced a theme on his legacy “ Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”.

It's been indeed fashion’s biggest night a history could witness. The star power of such excellence meeting fashion labels in collaboration to empower what Karl left behind and coming forward to channelise his legacy at the museum’s Great Hall was not only heartwarming for a fashion lover but it accomplished the serving of an entire community to a whole new fashion level. Just like Karl said in one of his quotes “ I don't like standard Beauty. There is no Beauty without strangeness- I’m a working-class person, working with the class.”

A line of beauty

Fashion’s biggest night was unveiled and it was class a part’ event where star power converged to celebrate Karl

Lagerfeld. A splash of Bollywood muse Alia Bhatt made her debut earlier this evening wearing a Prabal Gurung with Malabar Gold and Diamonds, all dolled up in a pearly Barbie gown with a long trail, while Priyanka Chopra Jonas had her fourth appearance at the Met wearing Valentino this year which was an excellent black gown in tribute to Karl.

Gen-Z sensations such as Emma Chamberlain, Jenna Ortega, Dua Lipa, Maude Apatow, and every kid’s new favourite Ice Spice seemed to abide more elegantly in powder blue, black, and white with pearls, bows and high-collar dresses. Penelope Cruz looked ravishing in a white cape gown with silver sequences while Emily Ratajkowski paid her tribute in a beige gown with a black bow ponytail. Nicole Kidman combined her Harry Winston and Omega with a beautiful dreamy feather gown, while Gisele being Karl’s favourite muse showed up in snow-white feathers looking serene white like a swan. Amanda Seyfried wore a rice pearl dangling dress in beige with curls out while gorgeous Sydney Sweeney showed her love for black Bows to a whole new level. Our favourite Barbie Margot Robbie stuns in a black gown grabbing the spotlight while Billie Eilish convinced Simone Rocha to dress her in all black breaking her signature image to dress up for the theme. All the attendees were expressive in their praise of Karl and what his work has done for years to memorize. Kristen Stewart looked comfortable in her Black and white crop jacket and high-waist pants. While Venessa Hudgens and Florence Pugh looked like Karl’s pretty fairies in his favourite black and white chic looks. Kim Kardashian dropped an effortless glamour being the mother of pearl herself in Schiaparelli’s custom-made pearl ensemble. While Kendal being Karl’s baby followed the black bodysuit with Diamond's collar and long sleeves cape just the way he would have liked it. Bad Bunny was dapper in floral detailing blooming through his suit followed by Chanel flowers trailing him to add the vibe and there was nothing bad about that look. While Gigi Hadid gave stunning a whole new meaning in black. Lilly Collins got her French glamour out in a beautiful Barbie dress while Jlo and Cardi B got their curves concealed in the most sophisticated manners Chanel could have done it around the time of Karl. Big girls like Ashley Graham, Lizzio, Kela Walker, and Precious Lee looked divine and dolled up in black and baby pink. While Janelle showed her threesome in Thom Brown customisation making an entry like never before.

Ppprrrrsome moment

From Kim K chilling with Karl’s heir cat Choupette Lagerfeld showing off her date night pics on the gram to Lil Nas X getting platinum silver body paint with pearls and crystal flaunting a cat glamour on the cream carpet. Jared Leto walks in wearing a huge Choupette Bodysuit to host of the evening Chloè Finneman carrying Judith Leiber’s crystal cat bag.

Doja Cat dressed like Choupette Lagerfeld including her face mask and makeup resembling a cat was creatively paying tribute to Karl and his spirit pet. There were plenty of pprrrsome moments we loved to capture at The Met Gala 2023.

For decades, Lagerfeld governed some of the biggest luxury labels in fashion. It was a well-deserved homage to honouring his cat and creativity in a star-studded guest list wearing profligate ensembles. When we say it was a significant juncture in the history of fashion, we meant by all means for this year’s Met Gala. The exhibition features around 150 original looks from his storied occupation, alongside their respective maverick sketches. Lagerfeld said “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.” This event was just a reflection of his discipline towards fashion and intense dressing.
