Met Gala 2024: How to Watch, who's attending, and the cost of joining at The Met in New York

MIAMI - The 2024 Met Gala is set to take place this year on May 6th, continuing the tradition of being held on the first Monday of May. As previously announced, the co-chairs are Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Zendaya.

Together with Vogue magazine's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, they will be in charge of welcoming the 600+ people who get together at New York's Metropolitan Museum to raise money for the museum's Costume Institute.

Needless to say, Bad Bunny is already leaving an indelible mark on pop culture in many ways, and, after Monday, he will have cemented his place in fashion history. While other Latinos have held the role of co-chair, el Conejo is the first person born in Puerto Rico to be part of the list. Previous Latino co-hosts include fashion designers Carolina Herrera (Venezuela), Oscar de la Renta (Dominican Republic), actress Paula Cussi (Mexico), and Gisele Bundtchen (Brazil), among others.

Shou Chew, Chief Executive Officer of TikTok, and Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of LOEWE, will serve as the evening's honorary chairs.

How to watch the Met Gala

For the fourth year in a row, Vogue will exclusively stream the red carpet in real time. The livestream will be hosted by actress Gwendoline Christie, Latina producer and actor La La Anthony, and model Ashley Graham. Emma Chamberlain will return as Vogue's special correspondent, talking to the stars as they arrive and claim the iconic Met's staircase.

Vogue has announced that the broadcast will be available on all of its digital platforms, including the magazine's website, TikTok and YouTube. The livestream of the Met Gala will start at 6 pm ET. Of course, the stars themselves and fans will be posting on social media earlier.

Who is going to the Met Gala this year?

The guest list is well guarded, but the fact that Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya are co-chairs makes it easy to guess that their significant others, Ben Affleck and Tom Holland respectively, will be in attendance. Additionally, Spanish model and actress Elsa Pataky is expected to be there, supporting her husband, Chris Hemsworth.

Pataky's fellow countrywomen, musician Rosalía and actress Penélope Cruz, are currently in Manhattan, and both have been invited before, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see them at the Met on Monday. The same can be said about Cruz's husband, Javier Bardem. Also in town are Ricky Martin, Anitta, Maluma, J Balvin, Salma Hayek, Anya Taylor-Joy (who is starring with Hemsworth in Furiosa), Jenna Ortega, Ice Spice, Thalía, and Cardi B. They have shown up in previous years, so it's very possible they will make a repeat appearance. There is also a biggest list of famous people going to the Vanity Fair after-party.

While the celebrities walk up the stairs to be seen, there is a much bigger group of people who are paying guests. The entry price for one ticket has risen to US$75,000 in 2024, a 50% increase from 2023's $50,000.

What is the point of the Met Gala

To date, the Benefit has raised more than $223.5 million for The Costume Institute under the leadership of Met Trustee Anna Wintour. She is Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director of Vogue, and has been a Trustee of The Met since January 1999.

According to the Met, the Costume Institute's collection comprises over 33,000 objects representing seven centuries of fashionable dress and accessories—from the 15th century to the present—for men, women, and children. It began as the Museum of Costume Art, an independent entity formed in 1937. In 1946, it merged with The Metropolitan Museum of Art as The Costume Institute and became a curatorial department in 1959. In January 2009, the Brooklyn Museum transferred its renowned costume collection to The Met, where it is known as the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The combined collections now constitute the largest and most comprehensive costume collection in the world.
