Met Gala 2022 sees Kim Kardashian and Blake Lively steal the show as stars get glam

Kim Kardashian proved she was leaving the best until last as she took to the Met Gala red carpet in Marilyn Monroe's iconic gold dress worn to sing happy birthday to president John F Kennedy 60 years ago.

The reality star, 41, bleached her hair blonde too to really get fully into the stylish look as she walked hand in hand with beau Pete Davidson.

The comic, 28, was happy to take a back step, but looked just as dapper in a smart black suit and tie combo.

The pair had followed Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds in making a stylish entry.

Blake stunned in a copper art deco patterned dress with an oversized bow that ran over her hips.

Ryan looked effortlessly cool in a tux with a white bow tie.

Vanessa Hudgens also left little to the imagination as she stepped out in a black sheer gown on the red carpet tonight.

The actress, 33, wore a pair of lace underwear under the see-through gothic-style dress as she was one of the first to arrive.

Her dramatic gown had a long lace train and large puffed sleeves and she pulled her hair into a tight bun to make sure not to distract from her look.

The first part of the exhibition was called In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which celebrated all things American Fashion.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan each stunned in their own unique way. Kylie donned an odd wedding dress/baseball cap combo on the red carpet, while sister Khloe went more glam as she perfectly rocked a gold Moschino gown at her first Met Gala.

Kourtney Kardashian appeared hand in hand with fiance Travis Barker. The pair perfectly co-ordinated as eldest Kardashian sister wore a floor-length skirt with a long-sleeve white crop top.

Momager Kris Jenner looked stylish in a floaty yellow off-the-shoulder number.

The Blink-182 drummer looked stereotypically stylish in a black tuxedo with overly long white cuffs. He completed the look with a pair of jet black sunglasses.

Meanwhile, Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor was worlds away from her 18th century petticoats as she made her Met Gala debut.

The British actress dared to wear underwear as outerwear as she revealed a delicate black bra under a sheer floor-length gown.

The 27-year-old wore her auburn hair in tight waves and added winged eyeliner for effect.

Cynthia Erivo wowed in a white lace gown that was complete with a feathered train.

She added an elegant head scarf and held a Louis Vuitton handbag.

Usually the event draws in around 600 celebrities, but this year the numbers are closer to 400.

The guest list for this year's star-studded event has been presided over by Anna Wintour, who has headed up the gala since 1995.

Despite cherry picking this year's attendees, the queen of fashion won't be making an appearance.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, who is expecting the couple's second child, oozed power couple vibes as they entered together.

Sophie wore a loose long black dress with studs across the chest and wore her stunning red hair in tight curls.

Making her hair colour pop even more, she added pink eyeshadow and a red lip for extra drama.

Joe wore a white tuxedo and appeared to be taking fashion tips from Louis Hamilton's half suit half dress from last year.

His jacket had a white lace train draping down to the floor as he glided in with his wife.

Rege-Jean Page cut a stylish figure in a velvet-looking dark blue suit and black shoes as fellow Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan embraced the Featherington family name with her pink and black dress.

She stepped out in a striking gown which featured cut-out detail on the back.

The blonde beauty added effect to her overall look with a striking blunt bob - which complimented her outfit.

This year's hosts include Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The event's theme has come under scrutiny as some have called it "out of touch".

One user tweeted: “Am I the only one who thinks this years #MetGala theme is out of touch? inequality is at the highest levels since the Gilded Age, a pandemic & economic meltdown wrecked us, inflation is out of control … but cool, let’s wear #GildedAge themed dresses & laugh about inequality … this year’s theme is a slap in the face to average Americans.”
