Met Gala 2022: From Kim Kardashian in Marilyn's dress to Cara Delevinge and Blake Lively, here's who wore what on fashion's big night

Blake Lively graces the red carpet ahead of co-chairing the 2022 Met Gala

Arguably fashion's biggest night, New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Met Gala lets celebrities step out of the box with their fashion choices — so expect something different.

On that front, creative director Fredrik Robertsson delivered, with silver spikes hitting the "gilded glamour" theme this year.

But he was mistaken for Jared Leto after picture agencies accidentally attributed the look to the actor.

Kim Kardashian went ultra vintage, snagging the actual dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to then-president John F Kennedy in 1962.

"I had to lose 16 pounds (7.2kg) to be able to fit this," she said on the red carpet.

"I was determined to fit it."

It was bought back in 2016 by the Ripley's Believe or Not! museum in Orlando, Florida, for a whopping $US4.81 million.

And Blake Lively made an incredible entrance in a colour-changing Versace dress — she arrived in a copper gown that represented a "patina" effect, changing to green.

"I wanted to ascend the carpet and have the outfit change," she told Vogue.

"I think Versace thought I was crazy when I pitched this."

Vogue livestream co-host Vanessa Hudgens picked a black sheer lace gown with a long train.

"I'm practically naked," Hudgens joked on the red carpet.

But rapper Nicki Minaj said her look was a bit too small and resulted in a wardrobe malfunction.

"The only unplanned thing about my look is my boobs popping out," she said.

And there was even this sweet proposal moment.

Former state Assembly candidate Bobby Digi Olisa got down on one knee to pop the question to a stunned Laurie Cumbo, the city’s commissioner of cultural affairs.
