One of the biggest fashion events of the year got underway on Monday night as stars attended the Met Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, raising funds for its Costume Institute.
Stars had creative freedom once again with this year's theme, which is In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. It honours the 75th anniversary of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The singer made a huge statement in not one, not two but THREE outfits to make his first Met Gala.
For his first outfit reveal, the 22-year-old wore an royal-like ornate cape that was covered in intricate gold beading. He then removed it to showcase a golden suit of armour as he battled for the best dressed title.
Once again he shed his suit and stunned in another golden number - this time he donned a slinky bodysuit which was covered in crystals and Versace’s signature house print.

Canadian musician Grimes never fails to make a statement, so it was to be expected she would stun at the Met Gala.
There are not many people who choose to bring a sword to the event, but that's exactly what the 33-year-old did as she rocked up in a 'Dune-esque' outfit.
As well as a sword, the singer showcased an extravagant outfit covered in intricate beading and a chrome face mask. Her hair was pulled back in an anti-gravity ponytail.

Congresswoman Carolyn B Maloney, 75, certainly read the memo as she turned up with a powerful message on her outfit.

The look was similar to that worn by Zoe Kravitz as she also showcased her amazing physique in a revealing outfit.

Shawn Mendes
The singer showed off his flat abs in a revealed number as he took to the red carpet alongside girlfriend Camila Cabello.
Shawn wore a jacket with no shirt underneath and Camila told Vogue how she tried, but failed, to get him to take it off completely.

"I was like, ‘Take it off! Take it off!'," she exclaimed.
Shawn and Camila were both wearing Michael Kors outfits, with the pair admitting they panicked a little to begin with incase their clothes didn't match.

Kim Petras
A day after wearing an odd mask to the MTV VMAs, the German singer was shocking fans with her choice of outfits once again.
