Met Eireann weather forecast hottest day of year before dramatic 11C temperature swing

Met Eireann has confirmed the hottest day of the year as temperatures are expected to reach as high as 27 degrees.

Next week is set to start with a bang with 27 degrees on Monday before a massive temperature swing hits. Met Eireann has warned of a dramatic change as the mercury will nosedive to a mild 16 degrees on Tuesday in some parts of the country.

This weekend is set to be the warmest so far as the mercury will soar to a sweltering as high as 25 degrees with lots of gorgeous sunny spells. Here is the forecast for the next few days:

Today will be dry with a good amount of cloud in the morning but sunshine will develop in the afternoon and evening. The highest temperatures will be around 16 to 23 degrees.

Tonight will be clear for some time before patchy drizzle spreads eastwards overnight. It will be mild and humid with the lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

Tomorrow will be bright with lovely spells of sunshine and the highest temperatures of 16 to 23 degrees. It will be coolest in Ulster and warmest in Munster with light north to northwest breezes.

Tomorrow night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Largely dry and mild with clear spells and perhaps a little mist or drizzle in places. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees with light, variable breezes.

Sunday

"It will be warm and largely dry with good sunny spells developing after some early morning mist or drizzle. Highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees, warmest in the midlands, with light variable breezes.

Sunday night

"It will be dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.

Monday

"It will be warm and dry with good spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 21 to 26 or 27 degrees with mostly light southerly breezes. Monday night will be very mild and humid with temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees.

Tuesday

"It will be a cloudier day with rain and drizzle developing in the west and north and spreading southeastwards, becoming very light and patchy as it does so. It won't be quite as warm with highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees, warmest in Leinster and light south to southwest breezes."
