Met Eireann weather forecast heavy rain for Dublin before the mercury soars on Bank Holiday Weekend

Heavy rain is set to hit Dublin before the stunning Bank Holiday forecast will take hold.

A weather expert said temperatures are set to soar to as high as 21 degrees with Saturday being the sunniest day.

Weather Alerts Ireland added: "[...] the South coastal counties could see some cloud and drizzle.

"Sunday and Monday look to be cloudier overall with some sunny spells again with a risk of a shower in the South."

Today will see a nice bright start to the morning but showery rain is expected to spread from the west in the late afternoon.

The rain may turn heavy at times and continue through the evening with the highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees.

Tonight will be mainly dry with the lowest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees.

Tomorrow morning will start off with scattered showers but will become drier towards the evening with sunny spells emerging.

The highest temperatures will be 13 to 15 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, the national outlook says it will become more unsettled next week.

Friday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Generally dry and clear although scattered showers may persist in the south. Minimum temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in light to moderate northeasterly breezes.

Saturday

"Dry and sunny across most of the country, although a few showers may push in to southern coastal counties at times. Highest temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, coolest along the east coast. Winds remaining light to moderate northeasterly.

Saturday night

"Continuing dry and clear in most areas, with isolated showers pushing into the south. Minimum temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light northeast to east breezes.

Sunday

"Dry with sunny spells in the morning and afternoon, but rain pushing into Leinster and Munster in the evening. Highs of 14 to 19 degrees, coolest in the east and southeast, with light to moderate easterly breezes.

Monday

"Bright or sunny spells. Some showers in Leinster and Munster, but mainly dry in Connacht and Ulster. Highs of 13 to 17 degrees, with light easterly or variable breezes."
