Met Eireann has given its verdict on the weather for the June bank holiday weekend and there is both good and bad news.
Some areas of Ireland can expect better weather than others with a north/south and east/west divide at times.
While the north and west are set to enjoy the best of any sunny or dry conditions, southern counties in particular will bear the brunt of any wet weather with heavy downpours expected at times.

The national forecaster has predicted that Saturday will be the best day weather-wise overall, however the west will be warmer than the east, while any rain will be confined to southern counties.
It said: “Dry and sunny in many areas on Saturday, cloudier in southern parts however with well scattered showers there. Highest temperatures ranging from 14C to 20C, coolest in the east and warmest in the west with moderate easterly winds.
“Scattered showers on Saturday night, most frequent in Munster and Leinster. Clearer weather in the north of the country. Lowest temperatures of 7C to 11C in light to moderate northeasterly breezes.”
Looking ahead to Sunday, the meteorological service said there is a risk of rain nationwide, with the potential for heavy downpour in southern and eastern areas. Meanwhile, the warmest weather will be in the west.
It said: “Scattered showers on Sunday turning heavy at times, especially in the south and east of the country. Some sunny spells too. Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C, warmest in the west, in light to moderate easterly winds.
“Lowest temperatures 8C to 11C overnight.”
There’s set to be a southeast/northwest split on bank holiday Monday with northern and western counties enjoying the best of the sun, while there is a risk of rain yet again for southern and eastern areas.
Met Eireann said: “Scattered showers in Munster and Leinster on Monday, sunnier in the west and north. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C, warmest in the northwest. Winds light and variable.”
Giving its early outlook for the remainder of next week, the national forecaster said: “Current indications suggest a spell of more persistent rain from the west on Wednesday. Daytime temperatures in the mid to high teens.”
